What to check before you pay
- Battery health: ask how long it runs, and whether the battery is original or replaced.
- Storage: an SSD makes an older laptop feel fast. Avoid machines that still run on a hard disk.
- RAM: 8 GB is a sensible minimum for office work today.
- Screen and keyboard: check for dead pixels, bright spots and worn keys.
- Ports and charger: test every port and make sure the charger is the right one.
